So this past weekend all the time I have been spending working on being an acceptable golfer finally paid off.
On Sunday night my instructor called and asked me if I wanted to join him for a round of golf Monday morning at 7:30 (yes that is 7:30 AM!!). So after asking my wife, and having her inform me that she would probably still be sleeping when I finished, I decided to play. Monday morning rolls around and as I got ready I could hear the rain falling on the windows, but I decided to go anyway. At the golf course the hard core players were preparing to go out, Devin (my instructor) tells me we are leading off the group. So we proceed to the tee box and begin our round. The rain was on and off throughout the day so it made everything pretty soggy.
The round had it's highs and lows, but overall I played great (I got robbed by 2 tree's). My green side pitches were dead on, and after putting horribly on the first 8 holes my putter came to life and I could do no wrong on the green. I ended up shooting the best round I have ever shot, an 84. Not only did I shoot an 84, I did it from the blue tee's and in the rain. So now I just have to work on my consistency and make sure that the poor shots I had become more and more infrequent. But happily I have begun to make progress on my quest for golf mediocrity.
I have also posted the scorecard from the round, and on it I highlighted my score (the 1 over par one was my instructor). The coyote ridge golf carts are pretty cool in that you can print out your scorecard.
